Mike McGorry
Michael P.J. McGorry was born in Amherst and graduated from Williamsville North High School in 1975.
He graduated from Erie Community College in 1977 and then from the University at Buffalo in 1980. McGorry graduated from University at Buffalo Law School in 1983 Magna Cum Laude. He played varsity hockey at Erie Community College and at UB.
McGorry was a nationally ranked squash player for more than thirty 30 years, having won the Canadian National Doubles Squash Championship on two separate occasions (40+ - 1997 and 45+ in 2004).
McGorry was elected to the Buffalo Squash Racquets Hall of Fame in 2002. He has been captain for the Can-Am cup matches between the United States and Canada since 2008. He’s presently chairman of U.S. Squash Doubles Rules and Referees Committees.
He started coaching squash at St. Joe’s in 2016 during his son Ryan’s freshman year at the school.
A standout in both hockey and lacrosse, the younger McGorry brought teammates from both sports to the squash program – and his father couldn’t resist the temptation to coach the fledgling squad.
Comment: “Our program gives kids an opportunity to play a game they’ve never seen before – and they can play it all their lives.”
